about me

I am Magali De Moor, a Belgian ceramicist living on the beautiful East Coast of Australia.

In 2013, I completed my bachelor's degree in visual arts, specialising in advertising. In the years that followed, while working as a graphic designer in marketing, my desire to step away from the screen and engage my very own hands grew. I started exploring traditional crafts and fell in love with the process of making and touching. The tactile experience of handcraft allows me to intimately connect with the medium and material; a dance that immerses a maker in their work and leaves them in a flow state, experiencing the pleasure of labour.

Clay quickly became my medium of choice; it provides a wide range of possibilities where aesthetics and functionality perform a fascinating play. It's forgiving in the sense that every mistake can be recycled, but at the same time it's an extremely challenging craft to master.

What started as a hobby in 2019 grew into a small-batch ceramics business today. I truly love creating functional objects that will be used in other people's homes as if a piece of me accompanies them in their lives.

Thank you for joining me on this creative journey.

about my work

All my ceramics are handcrafted in the Northern Rivers, using wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques. As a Belgian artist living in Australia, I tend to reach back to familiar forms and shapes that remind me of home. Strong lines, soft curves and monochromatic colour palettes flow out of me naturally; a minimalist manifestation with a delicate touch and feminine flair.

As a slow-making process takes place in my home studio, I find myself disconnecting from our fast-paced world and embracing the present moment. I want to evoke a similar experience for those who use my pieces. I’m passionate about bringing simplicity, purpose, and integrity into our daily rituals; an invitation to recognise the value of objects that serve a genuine purpose and carry meaningful stories.

Through my work, I hope to inspire others to make thoughtful purchases with longevity in mind, cherish their belongings, and even pass them on to others. I aim to create functional objects that prompt you to slow down and find beauty in the everyday.

I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which I live and work and pay my respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
